About Me
Anya (which means mother) came to us from the Pima County Animal Control shelter where she was a stray with four small puppies in tow. She has a sweet nature, and seems to get along nicely with other creatures (dogs, cats, people) and enjoys being part of the gang. She is currently in a foster home in Tucson. Update from her foster home: She is a great dog. This past weekend I took her up to Elgin. She did great, she was off leash the whole time even while I was “occupied” doing weed whacking. She either stayed with the other dogs or just laid down watching. She is very good, so far she has gotten along with every dog she has met. She loves the cats. She loves people and loves attention. She is intelligent but I don’t think she has the BC smarts.(we believe she is a mix, majority may be English Setter or a similar breed.) For example most dogs I’ve had this long will bring me a toy or go to the toy when I use the word “toy”. She loves her toys but doesn’t seem to associated them with the word. She always comes when you call her and has a great sit. To do her justice she should go to a home that has other pets for her to play with, I think she would be good with kids too. She is very loving and loves to snuggle next to you. She is a tiny bit reactive to new things, hair up, although up in Elgin I didn’t see any of that. Here, at first, she was reactive to noises on the other side of our 6’ block wall. Now that she is more confident she rarely will pay attention to stuff like that. If she does run to the wall or start to bark she will come flying back when I call her. She is obsessed with food and cannot be free fed, she even eats the birdseed if I leave the cover off.
